Today’s guest post is by Robyn Stevens. Robyn is a licensed Feng Shui consultant and works with clients on their homes and offices.
One of my very favorite things is to open someone’s “feng shui eyes.” Since I first heard those words in early 2000, it has become a bit of an obsession! A few minutes with me and you’ll never look at your home (or office!) the same way again. And that is a good thing.
What in the heck is this thing called Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is the art and science of balancing and harmonizing you to your home. Everything in your space directly impacts your life in every way: your finances, your love life, relationships with family and friends, career, reputation. In fact whether you realize it or not, whether you practice it or not, whether you pay attention to it or not, it impacts you.
Your home is either propelling you forward or holding you back.
Close your eyes for a second and imagine how you feel when you walk in your door. Your home is your sanctuary. It’s where you come to love, laugh, rest, reboot, restore.
Is that how you feel when you enter your home?
Is it clean, organized and clutter-free? Does the paint on the walls make your heart sing? Is the furniture the right size for the space, in the right places and good condition? Does the artwork evoke feelings of happiness, success, joy and love? Are you happy to be there?
When we surround ourselves with things that we love, things that make us happy, we are much more likely to attract that energy back to us. We will be happy, successful, loving people, and attract happy, successful, loving experiences and opportunities.
On the flip side, if your home is dirty, cluttered, filled with broken, dirty furniture, artwork that represents things you don’t want, things given to you and kept out of guilt – those are the people, experiences and opportunities that you attract. Yuck, right?
The great news is that you can shift that energy and pull the things you want – not the things you don’t want into your life.
Your home is a living breathing 3D vision board. Think “like attracts like.” What are you attracting?
It’s not where you live, it’s how you live while you are there.
Here’s the thing: most of us are not living in our dream home. We all have desires for newer, nicer things – and that is okay! The best way to get to your dream home (or dream job, or dream partner, or, or, or…) is to love on the space you are in right now.
Does it feel overwhelming to think about your entire home and where to start? Let’s start with an easy one, your nightstand.
Small Changes can lead to Big Shifts
The primary functions of your bedroom are sleep and intimacy — that’s it. The condition and cleanliness of your nightstand can have direct impact on both of these functions.
As my friend says, let’s get the molecules moving with the following exercise:
- Take everything off if it and out of it. Empty the drawers/shelves and top.
- Clean it. Wipe down the top, sides, even the drawers and shelves. Pull it out and vacuum behind it.
- Your bedroom has two functions – sleep and intimacy. With that in mind, sort through everything you pulled out of it. Decide what goes back. The things in/on your nightstand should support those two functions. Be ruthless!
- Space = opportunity. The top should be pretty and inspiring with just a few things on it. A lamp, a picture of you and your honey, maybe a pretty floral arrangement. Your subconscious will love this new relaxing atmosphere.
- Lastly, be mindful of how many plugs are near your head. Relocate those you can. Each one puts out an EMF (electromagnetic field). Those EMF’s go directly into our bodies when we sleep – messing up our sleep, focus and more.
Don’t underestimate the results of small, constant changes. Clean your nightstand and then take a breath…how do you feel? I find that these small exercises energize my clients and they can’t wait to keep going.
Sending you tons of healthy, happy juju as you begin your Feng Shui journey!
